Overview
The Ultimate Religious ArgumentAny reasonable person can easily achieve "the certainty unto death" that God exists. Just do a little thinking about why you take your sense of "wrong" seriously. Or, ask a doubter friend, " Why do you take your sense of "wrong" seriously as if it were AUTHORED BY GOD AND ENFORCED BY GOD, when you say your sense of "wrong" came from evolution and could evolve into something else at any time?! Think.
Know thyself. This Argument has exceptional force because we ALL take at least part of our sense of "wrong" seriously! Thus, we ALL behave as if we have perceptions of God's existence!Nobody, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, would say to God on His Judgment Day: You should not punish me because it was impossible for me to achieve the certainty You existed. No one would be able to protest to God that they could not have known of His existence.
Consequently, if the Biblical God exists, then a slam dunk argument for Him MUST also exist! Also, the Bible prophesies in Hebrews 8:11 that a slam dunk argument for God assuredly will be discovered! This verse says: And they shall not teach every man his neighbor and every man his brother, saying: Know the Lord. For ALL shall know me from the least to the greatest. Is this the argument prophesied in Hebrews 8:11? If not, it is a HUGE step in that direction.
In refuting every possible challenge to its premises, this Argument, for the first time ever, verbalizes the "certainty unto death" that most martyrs for God have achieved! The template for The Argument from Human Behavior:Premise 1: We all take seriously at least part of our sense of "wrong" (our sense of everyone's moral obligations). Premise 2: If we take seriously even part of our sense of "wrong, " then we have, in our mind, perceptions of God's existence.
Conclusion: Therefore, we all have, in our mind, perceptions of God's existence!(Premise 1 is substantiated through observing human behavior.)It is highly unlikely that an outlandish quirk of evolution put perceptions of God's existence into everyone's mind. On the other hand, it is extremely probable that the Biblical God put perceptions of His existence into everyone's mind, just as He promised to do in Hebrews 10:16: This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts and in their minds will I write them.
This argument understands that an OBJECTIVE PROOF OF GOD IS IMPOSSIBLE! Belief in God will always demand a step of faith. That step is-the faith that our seriously taken sense of "wrong" accurately reveals what actually exists: a God who demands morality. We ALL have complete faith in our other senses to accurately reveal what actually exists (naïve realism). Thus, having faith in our sense of "wrong" is not a big step at all.
Richard Swinburne came close to discovering this argument, when he noted: It is unlikely that moral awareness would exist in a Godless universe. He stopped there, just short of asking, "Why do we take moral awareness so seriously?"If you are a seeker and do a little thinking, you might find that Biblical prophecy is happening right before your eyes!Get your copy at the introductory price.
